My lil bro is has a really low threshold for pain. He got one tat, but thought it was unbearable and was a simple characature on the back of his neck.

He has some percocets and was curious about how well this lowers/alleviates the pain. He doesn't take narcs at all so I'm thinkin his tolerance will be low and it'll help. But how much will it help?

Oh, he's getting a chest piece, from shoulder to shoulder, between the collarbone and nipples.

This makes no sense at all.
Why would you wanna lower the pain...?
It's part of it and you shouldn't wanna do anything about that. Confused

But after reading this I kinda hope this chestpiece is gonna hurt a lot! Twisted Evil

haha, he just turned 18. He got his first tat from a local shop at 14 (with my rents permission). When he first got the idea of getting ink, he was all excited about a sleeve...after the piece on his neck, he's now a little more modest Very Happy

I wish I could relate to him, but I only have pieces on my arm. Our thresholds are a bit different. Shots/IVs scare the hell out of me, but I've broken bones and handled it with less fuss than a needle. But he's the exact opposite, he has no problem with needles, but when he broke his wrist (the same way I did, biking) he was a little puss and was rolling everywhere.

Think about this: say he takes a percocet for his chestpiece (and btw, I've heard chestpieces HURT), and then the drug wears off, and the pain seems ten times worse than it would have, had he not taken the drug at all in the first place.

Wouldn't it just be better for him to suck it up and take it like a man? No whining!

Any kind of drugs are really bad, as most thin the blood making it harder to put the ink in, and makes everything a lot messier.
I have my chest done and it goes from my sternum up to and over my collarbones on both sides, but still not quite shoulder to shoulder...
That took 12 hours...
Three sessions of 3hr, 3hr, 6 hr
He willl need a fuck of a lot of percocet and no matter how much he took, it wouldn't help for the sternum trust me.
If you can't handle the pain then you don't deserve the tattoo!

It's a god damned tattoo not a massage! What the fuck do you think you're paying for? The pain is a part of getting tattoed. PERIOD. You don't want the pain? You don't want the tattoo.

Think about it man, people want to get drugged up to avoid the pain of a tattoo, why not just get put under with anesthetic? If someone is SO desperate to avoid the pain in a tattoo then why do they want one? It just doesn't make sence to me, when anyone who has gone through the pain will tell you it was aboloutly worth it in the end. It's the same philosophy as not wanting to apprentice to become an artist, but just wanting to be the best immediatly after starting. People who ignore the means in order to attain a certain end are disgracing those who do things right.

Short sharp shock syndrome is the only way to get through to most people with that attitude.
