If I end up having kids... I'm just going to make myself completely forget that they have to eventually come OUT...

ok, Im guessing that most of you are either my age (over 40) or much younger.

Just so you know because i work in this field.

having a c section is not a minor thing...it Major surgery.....with it come risk of pulmonary embolism, deep vein thrombosis and stroke, infection, pneumonia, hemmorrhage and potential for a hysterectomy. they are very painful! and a c section is the only surgery you will have where you have it and a few hours later you are expected to breast feed/bottle feed your baby and by the next day taking care of your baby. most other surgery you go home and REST. having a new baby and rest dont belong in the same sentence.

So for those of you that dont like pain much , a normal delivery the old fashioned way in the long run is less painful and has lots less risks associated with it, and the recovery take almost no time, the c section is another ballgame. my first was a c section and because i had gone thru lung surgery at 22 it was easy for me but for alot of people it blows their mind especially if its their first major surgery. my second kid i had the old fashioned way ( no fetal distress like with the first one) and all around a MUCH MUCH better experience.

ok ok climbing down of my soap box again...... Twisted Evil

No, no, you're totally right! C-sections have become the popular thing nowadays and surgery is nothing to sneeze at. Natural birth is the best way to go, it's natural, nature made it as painless as possible just trust in it. Birth isn't always screaming and thrashing and hurting whoever is holding the mother's hand. If you let the birth come naturally, and don't force it, don't use labor inducing drugs etc, birth is actually an entirely liveable event. I know one woman who had a home birth in the morning, without painkillers of any type, and got up and made herself lunch afterwards.

I really don't believe in scheduling your baby's delivery (and having them by c-section, purposely). Things happen when they are meant to happen - why do people keep trying to rush things ? Having a baby the normal way would be greatly preferable to a major surgery. I know a woman who had to have both her kids by c-section, and I would guess that part of the reason might have been that she is the tiniest woman on earth who isn't anorexic, or otherwise unnaturally thin. If it's absolutely necessary to have a c-section, then that's what has to happen... but I don't see the point in risking it if it's not a necessity.

Water births are supposed to be healthy, from what I've heard - and some say less traumatic for the fetus?

Yes it is, it's easier on both parent and baby.

Or the women who walk in, are barely in labor and get an epidural right away?
And it wears off by the time the real pain starts?

I may be 45 but im really just l8 with 27 yrs experience ! LOL

I have to say that I couldnt agree more there are some women that are so tiny that "there is no way the passenger (the baby) could get thru the portal (tiny pelvis)" or have other complications or issues and for those women Im in total agreement with what we call at work "a vaginal bypass" its the whiny chicks that dont want experience giving birth that are the worst patients when "I" have to get them out of bed and moving the next morning, and take away their morphine happy button.......but im nice i give them percocet instead!!

But its sad when you see a young healthy woman that post op wont move and she ends up with stupid complications....

.......... you can lead a horse to water ......... but you cant make them drink....

ok y'all gotta put my smallest kid to bed.......
