Aight, so I have an appt. next week with a really great artist, it's one session.
I would really like to get my ribs done, obviously not a full panel but i'd like to let him do whatever he wants.
In a say, 4 hour session can I get a peice that will flow on my ribs? I mean if the guy really knows what he's doing and is super quick and is only using black...
or would I seem like a dumbass for even asking him.

| depending on size he can get an outline done and a decent amount of shading......i dunno about completion as the depends on size, detail, etc. |

tons of artists will do whatever they want if you ask them to. its not quite the same but for my leg sleeve i just told the artist this is the subject do whatever you want with it i never saw the design until i flew down to get it inked |

dude should feel honored... i'm getting work from him because he's one of the best, and I'm letting him know that by having faith in him.
As far as my question goes, I guess thats a bridge crossed when I get to it.

I've met some artists that want you to describe the tattoo down to the last detail, and I've heard of some that are flattered to be able to do 'whatever they want'. Generally though, only the ego-tistical and self-centered would feel comfortable with just putting whatever they wanted on your body. There are maybe one or two artists in the world (that I've found) that I could say "do whatever you want." But even then I would feel safer providing some sort of subject matter and a few guidelines.
Force, who is doing the work? I'd bet you've researched him well enough to know the style he is into and are confident in his abilities. Just give him a general guidelines, koi, samurai, lotus, or whatever. You must have some general idea in mind? |

I believe talent, such as some of the artists on this site, deserves respect. I think that if you dig what the artist does, giving them full rein over their art is only going to produce fantastic results. I've already told kohlhaas that when she is ready to tattoo she can do what ever she wants with my body...I love all her work, she's in to the same things I like, she can pick the area to work with and really nail the flow...I see it as win/win. I don't think it has anything to do with her being egotistical..I see it as me having faith. Plus it will be fun- shes a fucking riot. (I'm sure we will post some pictures)
Force, I don't don't think your question is even in the same neighborhood as some of the really stupid questions that artist get. I would just talk it out with your guy.( I bet he can, the only thing that time limits is detail) |

I think people should have a design picked out already, and if they want get the artist to 'improve' certain aspects of the design. As for getting a 'good' tattoo, I think it takes time, and shouldnt be rushed.

Well we can do that as soon as I'm ready to do such projects... and when the time comes, I'll promise not to say "Ooops!" or "now it looks like a banana..." too much  You'll have to extend your stay to allow for consumption of large amounts of alcohol, and dancing on tables...  |

I'm in it for the art, not the visual-life-milestone.

im leaving her some quality real estate to do some work for me too although id have to wait till im in the states  and it shall follow with large amounts of alcohol and then me spending the next day in the toilet  lol |
