what about small ingrown hairs or "zits"
i seem to get at least a couple each time, dunno why. i usually just let them work themselves out and heal. is there a way to prevent this or get rid of them while the tattoo is healing? or is it best to just leave them be? |

It "will not" do the same for the color/shading aspect of the tattoo. |
Tat, beyond the "Tattoo Aftercare" instructions, you have any suggestions specifically for a 1/2 back(collarbone to beltline, ribs to spine). Some of the areas are hard to get to. I can do the contortionist acts to wash it, but applying creams or ointments or lotions with any consistancy and "thin enough" is a challange. I have some people that can come over and help me like once a day or whatever, but not 3 or 4 times a day like I usually shower... |

Once a day is fine, hell, I didn't have anyone put anything on mine after my second session because I went out of town. I just get girlfriends to apply the lotion whenever able.
It's NOT needed for healing, it just helps heal faster is all. Washing it is the most important part. _________________

have any of you used Tegaderm?? it's a sticky transparent dressing, very simalar to cling film, last bit of work i had done i used this, you wash the tattoo then let it air dry for 15-20 mins as normal, you then just stick the dressing over it, no cream to be used, and leave it for 24 hours max or if it weeps alot you may have to change it a couple of times in 24hrs!!!
I did this for about 4 days and i've had no scabbing, brilliant if you work in a dirty enviroment where you can't wash it all day, it is also almost invisable so you can actually still see whats going on with the tat underneath !!
i will be certainly using it again!!! |

I agree freebird... Many people still don't read the original post. _________________

| Why are there so many contradictions? Some people say use lotion, others say use Bacatrin and not lotion, then some say A&D instead of Bactarin. |

| Thanks. Someone recommended Aquaphor to me also. Its stuff for babies' diaper rash, I think. Is that good or no? |

| "It will begin to flake like sunburn" ok i have dark skin and i do not know what i sunburn feels nor what one looks like. my skin is actually peeling off. when i wash is there skin coming off and when i put lotion on it the same thing accrues. is this the normal process. And, Wrap method, can i do this regularly ( under tight fitting clothing, to bed.....)? |

| Hey guys. Informative forum, thanks for making it. So, I have a question concerning the ointments/lotions/creams etc.. My first tattoo I was advised to use A&D ointment and I broke out in that horrible rash that was mentioned. What would be the next best thing. I'm also allergic to suntan lotions and oils. Most lotions are okay but it's not sounding as if a person should start with a lotion. What about petroleum jelly? I have an appointment for next Monday and would really like to take the best care of my tattoo that I possibly can. Thanks! Take care! |

Sounds like you'd be better off with a lotion, unscented.
Curel, Lubriderm, even Vasaline intensive care (unscented) _________________

Thanks, I couldn't wait for the tattoo that I made an appointment for and got a small cover up yesterday and my artist suggested using aquaphor and so far it's worked very well. I took the advice about not using enough to leave a streak. It's healing nicely. By this time with my first tattoo I was already breaking out really bad. Thanks for the help. I'll post some pictures soon. I have an appointment on Monday but it's basically going to be outline work. Fun times. I'll post some pictures of it once it gets finished. |
