Contemplating first tatto and have been for many many months. I have visited a couple of shops. One in PA that was awesome and one in MD that is also good. I noticed that the mryland one did not have a problem if you wanted/needed someone to be with you to help with the pain, but the PA one strictly forbid it. I am working through my fear of the pain and am working on my design, but would really like to know that if I need to I can take someone along to help me channel through the pain.
Can any of you shed some light on this? I have heard mixed things from friends and wanted to know from you guys what your views are on this. _________________ April |

Number 1:
It is a rite of passage. No one is supposed to hold your hand through a rite of passage...it sorta defeats the purpose, no?
I allow 1 other person in the room, and they must sit in a designated area, away from where I am working. I only allow this because I work in a very large room. If they get up, they leave, and don't come back in, because,
Number 2:
We work in clean rooms...and that means the running about by unnecessary folks is a bad thing. It isn't a party. I don't need the distraction of your friends, or their cell phones ringing every thirty seconds, or their touching my stuff, or any of that horseshit.
Does your doctor allow a group of "moral support" in his operating room? No...because it wouldn't be clean.
If an artist doesn't allow anyone in the room except you, they can sit in the waiting room. You'll live. |

I understand the right of passage part as I am getting this tattoo to commemorate my adoption of two children and passage through infertility. I am waiting to make sure I have really thought out the design and really do plan on going through it alone. I was just wondering how it is looked upon in the tattoo world for people to have others with them is all. I wouldn't really say that I am planning a party at all as I am thinking that it will be an emotional experience as much as a physical one. Just curious. _________________ April |

| I would explain that to the tattooist, and be polite and ask him/her what they will allow. I, personally have no problem with one other person, and if the situation warranted it, I would allow two...but they would have to follow certain rules. |
