Somone in Oklahoma Finally figured out a way around the No Tattoo laws. So now I have a question. Since this is a brand new studio (just opened yesterday) what do I need to look for before I let them tat me?
Already talked to a couple of the artists and there's one that's a complete newbie and then a couple of older guys, seem like nice guys, though when I asked aobut a custom peice I was diected to the wall(by the new guy the older guys had customer scom in while we were talking) and told to just pic somehting out, mix and matcha few peices of flasha nd we could figure out something unique...not very confidence instilling but giving the the bennifit of the doubt fo rthe moment what do I need to keep an eye out for as far as yes this is a good studio or hell no you aren't getting near me with that needle?
Thanks |

I already answered in a reply to your private message, but will repeat it here for the benifit of others.
Why would a legit studio hire a guy who can't draw to do tattoos??? If he isn't artistic enough to draw you a custom design, why is he doing tattoos? Who would want him around? That makes me question the whole place. Furthermore, if they don't know how to draw, do they fit the description I have in the post I linked to? If not, that's about all you need to know.
A tattooist should, first and foremost, be clean. Second, he should be an ARTIST...hence the term "tattoo ARTIST". If he is just some guy who can trace flash off the wall, why settle for that? Go to a real tattoo artist. |

I'm interested in knowing how they got around the law? What is the loophole? I'm curious. _________________ ~Stacey Sharp

WOW! Someone got around the laws? I'd like to know how too. I know it has been against the law for so long now. And, are you kidding? The first studio to get around the laws, can only come up with a scratcher, and not an artist, to run the show? Wonder how long that will last? Man, given that chance to open in a state where it isn't legal, and you muck it all up like that? That's great! Sure that will make the state relook at the laws again. And in the long run, muck it all up for anyone else who would want to open. |

Well...the short sweet and to the point of it is that they are renting land from an individual who is a member of one of the soverign indian tribes. Since the tribes themseles have no laws against it and there are no federal laws regulating it it defaults to a legal status.
Kind of like well you never said I couldn't do this so...
Also found out about another one that opened a few months ago in Tulsa. Apparantly the way he is getting around the legal repercusions is that the laws forbidding tattoos are poorly worded, they state that it is illegal to tattoo, brand or otherwise mark any individual in any way which causes permemnent disfigurement. well since lasers can now be used to remove tattoos with no scaring he is practicing under the contention that what he is doing is not permenent.
As for the artists, from what I saw last night they have one artist that actually know what he's doing, he's on of the artists out of TX that did one of my other tattoos, apparantly he's been making the three hour commute daily for the last 10 years or so. So far he's the only one I would let do any work for me and out of three or four hours I was there last night there was about three minutes where he didn't have a customer or busy setting up for another one...the other two just kind of hung out... |

| Just in case something ever goes wrong, I covered at least one base. You can get a minister's license, and declare your studio a church. The fact tattooing and body mods has been done as valid religious practice is well docummented. No government official in their right mind wants to cross the line of interfering in religious practice once a precident has been set. |

You refer to it as a "donation".
If the agreed upon "donation" isn't enough, you don't have to do the ritual. |
