It usually depends on the artist and most that I know charge by the size, how long it takes them, and what colors they use. Even some charge by location. It all depends, you can go to your local parlor, and ask also. They'll give you an estimate, and it always is an estimate. Sometimes it always goes over. Good luck. _________________ ~Kitty Von English~ |

Most charge by the hour, period...
Some places in the North/East charge all JACKED up. They charge differently depending on the placement of the tattoo and size??? I HATE THAT SH_T but whatever.
By the hour is the most common. Normally around 100 dollars an hour for a good artist. Most famous artists charge more.
Every artist tattoos at different speeds too. Bob Tyrell is SO SLOW that he does a 9 hour tattoo in the same amount of time anyone else would only take around 4 hours to do.
LOTS of factors come into play. Go to the shop you want to get the work done and ask... _________________

tattude, typically i agree with you 100%, but this time we're at different ends of the spectrum. I (being from the north east, lol) totally see the difference in placement of a piece. If i girl comes in with, say, a floral design, the placement can be a big issue. If it's on a back shoulder, for example, you're tattooing it at size. for the sake of argument, we'll say it's 4 square inches. There it is, at size while it's being applied to the client. If you take that same design and put it on the girl's lower back (one of the most annoying trends today, in my opinion), it's a new ball game. The stencil goes on, it looks the same, but as she as she sits down and get "into position", the piece can grow up to 3 times it's original size due to skin stretch-age to get the area as tight as possible. This being the case, the piece will more than likely take more time and therefore should have a higher price tag. That's the way it was explained to me and it seems to make some sense. Like I said, i disagree with you on this, but this post is in no way meant to be disrespectful _________________ Just a small guy trying to get by... |

Cx, I agree. Even though I dont' charge extra for work on certain areas, I can completely understand why some do. Some of those lower back pieces become huuuge when the person sits. _________________ ~Stacey Sharp
