you have potential (in my personal opinion) but my advice would be to take some more / advanced art courses to learn more.
from a design perspective their not too bad if not a bit cliche and average.
and what should u take to a tattooist when asking for an apprenticeship?
1: the right attitude.
2: a fucking huge wad of cash.
3: lots of self drawn flash; u want professional grade so look at the walls at a - good - tattoo shop and then at your pics: honestly your not up to the grade yet.
oh and dont take stuff like that cross; do some intricate shit: anyone can draw a cross or banner.
PS: i dont know who did the ink on your friends but its not great quality... |

Yea, deffinately bring in the best and most complicated things you can do, so that you can give them a good idea of your talent.
Also, bring in drawings that range in subject and style, some old school, new school, japanese, portrait, black and white, color, etc.
If you haven't yet, read the sticky on apprenticeships
and yes, I would suggest something more than Highschool art classes if you haven't already. |

| um you got a lot to work on i dont want to sound mean or anything but right now i dont think you could find a apprentinceship. Im 16 and want to get a apprentinceship when i turn 18. I draw a lot and take a lottt of art classes. And when i mean draw a lot, i mean i try to draw around 3 things a day. i dont want to sound like im mean but i mean i would try and take more art classes right now, so you know value, perspective, proportion...blah blah all that stuff |

yeah.
look at the top and bottom tip of the cross. They are a little crooked. Enough to make a tattoo look bad. the best way to draw that kinda thing is to draw half of it, fold your stencil paper in half and trace over, that way you are sure you get a perfect symmetrical image. |

Ok, here we go :
Put together a good portfolio. What's a "good" portfolio, you ask?
A good portfolio :
-15-20 of your best pieces
-Professionally put together in a nice portfolio (hit up an arts supply store or a place like staples/office depot, they aren't expensive)
-Make sure to present a range of your work (color pieces, paintings, drawings, charcoal sketches, ect. If you include attempts at tattoo flash, make sure that you present them with the linework to each piece/page)
Don't skimp on anything when it comes to your portfolio. mat/mount your drawings in a professional manner, organize and label them, keep the line work and/or initial sketches beside the finished pieces.
Right now, you've posted what i'd consider a pile of "sketches", "concept drawings" and "initial pieces". While it's good to include a FEW of these in your portfolio to give your potential boss an idea as to how it is you work and come up with a custom design, it simple isn't enough.
Finish some pieces. Fully shade the black and grey pieces, and fully color the color pieces.
Best of luck to you in your hunt. It will more than likely be a long and frustrating road, but if you want it bad enough, it'll come. Hope everything works out well for you. |

Heres the thing. You dont need a Tattoo Artist to teach you to draw.. You need a tattoo artist to teach you to safely put your drawings into someones skin. I'm not saying that a tattoo artist doesnt have a ton of good info to pass on regarding the drawing creation process, but using an apprentiship to learn to draw is wasting alot of time on the artist part. I would think that at the point where you actually seek out an apprenticeship, your drawing abilities are that which you could consistqantly kick out end quality peices. Thats when you go and learn how to take the end result of step one(drawing the tattoo design) and learn how to properly do the other half(tattooing).. You should be taking art classes, and probably a couple years of them, before you really think about an appreticeship. That would be like you going in for a network engineer job because you know how to turn your computer on and surf the internet. You are like 5% of the way done with what you need to learn. You need to be a little further along than that before you finish your learning on the job. Real rock stars arent made overnight..
As far as your work, it's better than I could draw. It looks pretty clean. The first design with the wings is solid. The banner and the cross are pretty good, and could be made good and solid with a little cleanup, but as mentioned above, banners and crosses arent exactally huge custom peices. I would take the feedback you got here, and keep drawing. ake some night or summer drawing classes. Just draw man.... I would hold off on the seeking out an apprenticeship until your are qualified, not just "ready"....
Good Luck man... |

| Like Kory says you need to draw, draw, draw. You say these drawings are old. Draw something new and complete it then post it tonight. We'd like to see it. |
