Hey All,
My name is Mark and I'm twenty years old. When I was 18 I decided to get my first tattoo. I was with my girlfriend for 2 years and decided to get out astro signs together (Aries and Gemini).
today I have a few problems with it.
1) We have been broken up for a year and a half
2) I went to some scratcher of an artist that worked on St. Mark's Place in Manhattan. He was not a professional.
3) It's ugly and I can't look at it anymore. He even decided to go farther down my wrist than he should have. Now the bottom tip is a little warped and faded.
I want to change it or cover it up. I have gotten another tattoo on my inner arm and I love it. I compare the two and just feel like an idiot for getting that first tattoo. I would appreciate any type of advice. I'm open to almost any design or idea. I do work in law enforcement so it can't be anything that would conflict with that.

Find an artist and speak to them about what you can do to cover it up. I had a tattoo covered up recently.
Here's the original:
And here's the cover up. All the Kanji is inside the frog's body. You'd be amazed at what a good artist can do with shading and texturing.
So don't be discouraged, finding the right artist and the right design is out there. Mine was an ex's nickname too so I feel your pain. _________________ Ink to paper is thoughtful

Will you be our poster child for young, stupid tattoos?
I'm certain you can cover it or transform it into something else. The curve of the aries makes a nice set of eyes. The bottom curve of the Gemini could serve as a top lip. I'm thinking...tiki man.

SweetTea I like that idea. I've actually noticed it kinda looked like a Tiki man.
I live in Staten Island, NY which is very close to Manhattan. I'm know there must be great artists in either Manhattan or Brooklyn. The problem is I'm the only one of my friends to have a tattoo so I don't know of any decent artists.
Anybody know of a good cover artist? |

pound the streets; get the phonebook and look for all the studios close and check each out in person; look at the portfolios and if they dont offer what your looking for move on. If you dont find what you need in your imediate area fan out into outer areas.

| Go down to New York Adorned on 2nd avenue and 2nd street and speak to Chris O'Donnell. I'm sure he can fix that up for you. If he isn't available (which he often times isn't) any of the other artists there will be able to help as well depending on what style you want to do. Bryan at NY Adorned did my tattoo and I love it. |

A laser is light—very concentrated light, but light. Short pulses of this very concentrated light are positioned on a certain color in the tattoo, passing through the outer epidermis layer of the skin to be absorbed directly by the molecules of tattoo pigment in the dermis. If you've read the section in the last chapter on the damage that the sun can do, this should sound familiar. Just as with sunlight (in particular UV radiation), the molecules of pigment absorb energy which they simply can't handle, breaking their bonds, nearly vaporizing them, and reducing them to smaller-sized molecules. And, as you recall in your newly grown knowledge base, when the particles become smaller, the body's immune system can remove them (white blood cells called macrophages go on the march, scoop them up, and whisk them away). The wavelength of the laser is finely tuned to target a specific color molecule; other pigments in the tattoo or the melanin in your skin are not affected.

I know what you mean. The tattoo is ok, but just ok. I want something I can really be proud of.
Now when thinking of what I want the tattoo to be, how should I be thinking? Should I consider it a blank canvas and see if the artist can make it work.
I'm having a rough time thinking of exactly what I want. |

I have never brought any artwork or references to any of my artists. Tell them what you like and what you dont and if the guy is worth your money, you ll end up with sick ink. Trust me, many artists perform better with freedom, but that doesnt mean they have to do something you wont like, you can find the perfect balance.
good luck. _________________ ---------------------- |
