My grandfather recently passed away and he was very close to me. He served our country in WW2, and I really want to remember him in a tattoo. (He had many). Any ideas? I wanted something maybe that said Semper Fi, but does anyone know if thats legit? I am not in the marines. Thanks for your help,
Steve |

| Since you're a civilian, I'd shy away from blatant military imagery (e.i. the Marine insignia with a Semper Fi banner). Take a look at old school style images, that particular style is very reminiscient of the times. |

| Milatary tattoos are for those who wore/wear the uniform. I am sure your grandfather had other attributes you respected. Try to think of something about him that was unique to your relationship and use that to come up with a kick ass tatt. |

| hey, i am not currently in the marines but am joining within the next year, i can't wait to get my semper fi tattoos(Semper Fidelis, meaning always faithful), among many other tattoos. But trust me man you really don't want to get a Semper Fi tattoo or anything that would make people think you were in the Marines. I for one am holding off on any USCM tattoos until i have earned the title of a Marine. I heard of one story someone got a marine tattoo before boot camp and when he got there the other men would take a knife everyday and they scraped it off until it was completely gone, just lookin out for you bro. I think its great you want to honor your grandfather but i would definately reccomend you doing it in a way that doesn't give off the wrong impression. Hope this helped. |

| I knew an old Gunny who was a Marine before they adopted all the pussy rules about hitting people, and picking on people. If a kid stepped off the bus with a Marine tattoo, this guy would knock their ass out cold. And it was an absolute guarantee that the person would either be the toughest fucker you ever saw, or would fail out of bootcamp. |

I was in the Marines for 8 years, and I WILL kick your ass if there is one thing one you body that says "USMC" "Semper Fi" " or any other Marine Corp imagery, without first atleast going through the hell we call boot camp....
Badwolf, I joined in `95 and can vouch first hand that that shit (severe beating and insults) did occur when I was there.
The worst beating I ever took was at the hands of a Drill Instructor...
Not fun, but they need to instill disipline somehow and a severe beating is the only way to get through to some people.. |

Every Gunny has a speech at graduation day. Until that day, he refers to you as "Ladies". That day he refers to you as "Marines."
Until HE SAYS you are a Marine, YOU AREN'T. And you have no right to bear any insignia that says that you are. Unless you are stronger than the whole fucking Corp, and can defend yourself against the entire fucking Corp. You will NOT put that on your body if you have an ounce of common sense until that Gunny calls you a Marine....to your fuckin' face.!
Period.
When he says you are a Marine, you are a Marine until the end of eternity.
You will act as though you are a part of that brotherhood until the earth is swallowed by the sun.
Maraines do not die. They go to Hell and regroup. They stock Heaven with fresh souls. And unless you wanna be one of those souls...real bad...stay away from that which is THEIRS. |

| My grandfather was Navy in WW2. He had an old slipper ship with his ship's name USS Gilford under it. Then my grandmother's name Jeanie under that. I had an old ship drawn up with rope around it and USS Jeanie under it to commemorate them both. |
