OKAY so. i got my first tattoo a little over a week ago now. i got it on my left ankle. they told me to put on a&d ointment for three days, then to switch over to a white, frangrance-free lotion for another ten. fine, so i did that.
a few days ago, however, i noticed i was beginning to get small red bumps above my tattoo that were beginning to itch like crazy. so yesterday i went over to the place and they told me i was probably having an allergic reaction to the lotion i was using and to not put anything on it altogether. unfortunately as the day went on they got bigger and itchier.
today i couldn't take it anymore and dabbed a little cortisone on them which seemed to relieve a little of the itching. i also read somewhere i should take benadryl, which i did.
my questions are- is it possible it's not the lotion? my tattoo is very very dry now- is that okay? and what the h can i put on the bumps to relieve the itching and make them go away?!!?!?

Without a picture it's hard to tell, but a few people have posted here with a similar problem.
Don't put anything on it. It will dry up and peel and itch like crazy. That's normal and all part of the healing process. As long as it is not painful or emanating strange odors - those are signs of infection Redness is usually a reaction to either the lotion or A&D. Take a look at this post and see if it answers your question:

HAving consulted my medical journal I see my errror.
Semen as a topical....usually effective, but not always.
Semen injection....always effective
Semen taken orally...always effective
