If my dogs could write I would consider getting it in a tattoo.
Sadly neither can write.
or read for that matter |

As soon as my son is able to write I'm doing this too. It'll be right under his portrait _________________

It seems like most people would let their kid sign the name.. but what age would you let them go at it? lol
would you get it done as soon as they can write their name.. or a few years after when they actually have a signature? and why? _________________

My daughter tattooed me when she was 16.
Signed her name on my chest.
It isn't the "prettiest" tattoo I have...but it is amongst the two most important. |

I'm down for it, I have been planning on having my son write out his name... or a quote I choose and then get it done.
I think if it means something to you it doesn't matter how others judge it... I want it written in crayon, then have the artist clean it up and make it look like its on my skin in crayon. |

That's the key there I think. Who cares what other people think. But so often people do. It's kind of strange. People come in to the shop to get a tattoo that's personal to them, they love it, they leave the shop happy, then they come back because their friends don't like it. Stop seeking approval from others.
We had a cute little blonde girl come in and get a scorpion on the back of her neck. She comes back all upset because her mom and employers didn't like it. These are the last people your going to get approval from. I thought that was the whole idea. It's a fucking scorpion.
If you like your tattoo that is the most important thing. Who cares what other people think. |
poor girl, she shoulda had my mom - not that I didn't care what she said, but she simply said, it's pretty, but sooo...BIG... Anyone looking for a toatto should just get what you like/want and like & live with what they get. I think it would be very cool to have a child participate in the process if the parent wants to keep something as a memory of a particular moment, fuck what other people think... _________________ Don't ask the question if you don't want know the answer! |

Sorry for the bump, but I figured instead of starting a new topic I would do a search.
I'm an ink virgin, but have wanted one for a long time, just can't decide on something I want to look at when I'm old and gray. A few weeks ago my 2 1/2 yr old daughter just upped and drew this picture, which is technically light years ahead of anything she's ever done. We asked her what it was and she said it was daddy. It's her first portrait and first picture that isn't a line or a squiggle. I am an artist, and art means a lot to me in general, and of course my baby is the light of my life, so I figure why not? This is her drawing
I would fix a couple of the lines, and do it up in black. I would like to put in on my arm, possibly inner bicep, but i'm rather scrawny, and quite the pussy.
I'd love to hear your thoughts... |

Although it would be special to you, everyone that ever saw it would think you just had a super shittastic tattoo... Even by the best artist, its gonna look terrible. Not trying to be a dick, but if I saw that on someones arm, I'd be disgusted.. I'd figure the local trailer park scratcher did a number on them.... Wait and get an awesome peice of art reflective of your daughters personality or interests _________________

Get it framed with museum quality preservation glass and hang it on your wall. It will cost about the same and last just as long.
Save the tattoo for something about your daughter that will look great and evoke a "wow" from people rather than a quizical look and a "woah bummer". _________________ Scientists have known that what grows on a gamer's face is different from that of a man's.

Good point. If she can do this at 2 I'm sure she'll make much nicer ones when she's older. Father's pride got the best of me I think. I do plan on framing it, but I think I'll wait till she can write her name.
Thanks for your opinions and for not bashing her drawing. |

The reason I ask this is that I often see some tattoos that look as though they were drawn by a 2nd grader and have wondered whether or not they were meant to be that way. |
I would do whatever the fuck made me happy and the world could kiss my ass.
My daughter is only 4 and Ive tried to get her to tattoo me already. I dont care if the tattoo turns out nice... I just want a little mark from my kid. If somebody knocks it.. Fuck em. |

Our piercer had a client who had been corresponding with serial killer Richard Ramirez, and had a drawing of Curious George that Ramirez had sent her from his prison cell. She gave it to my piercer and he had one of the other guys ink a perfect copy of the drawing, line for line in all it's horrible glory, on his lower leg. It's even facing backwards intentionally. Looks awesome. _________________ Matt Crunk
