I just got a new tattoo (my second) this past weekend. But I was confused when the guy told me to use neosporine OR lotion. I've heard so many conflicting things. The first tattoo I got the guys said absolutely NO neosporine. Then I've read a hundreds of tattoo care instructions who say one thing or the other. Does anyone really know which it is and why or why not??? I really love this last peice I got done but I don't want it ruined because I took care of it wrong. Help???

Unless you have an infection and are using it at the recommendation of a doctor, you should NEVER use any antibiotic prepairation. Use unscented Lubriderm or aquaphor, or a shea butter based lotion or ointment.
Antibiotics are BAD. |

I have been wondering this too, I would take badwolf's advice...here is what this forum website says:
Remove bandage after 2 hours (do not rebandage)
Wash tattoo with your hand (make sure hand is clean) using warm, soapy water. Rinse with cold water. Don't over soak your tattoo. Keep out of the direct spray of the shower. Pat dry, DO NOT rub with towel.
For 3 to 5 days or until tattoo is healed, apply Vitamin A&D Ointment or Bacitracin or Zinc Oxide Ointment 3 to 4 times daily after washing tattoo. Keep tattoo moist. If allergic to these ointments, use a water based lotion such as Curel.
Tattoo will flake. DO NOT pick at the flakes or you may pull the color out. Try not to let clothing rub on your tattoo while it is healing.
NO swimming or suntanning until healed. Apply a high SPF sunblock to tattoo after healed to prevent fading. _________________ Newbie that needs some advice...PMs/email welcome |

While I've had good results with A&D ointment (when used VERY sparingly), I honestly wouldn't recomend it. A shea butter based lotion is you best bet, hands down _________________ Just a small guy trying to get by... |

I have posted this before, but will do it again...it's been a while.
My girlfriend is an herbalist (among other things ) and makes an ointment for healing tattoos. In all the years I have been tattooing, I have never seen anything heal a tattoo faster, without any problems. I'm not saying that because she makes it...I wouldn't promote something I did not believe in wholeheartedly.
Since she has no intentions on marketing it outside of my studio at this time, I will share the basics. Just go to a local hippy shop and buy Pure shea butter. Make sure it is PURE shea butter. Also, pick up a bottle of pure, FOOD GRADE lavander oil. For every ounce of shea butter, put 2 or 3 drops of the lavander oil in it and mix it all up.
The shea butter is the finest emolient known to man. It has healing properties that are amazing. It is used for promoting rapid skin cell re-generation. The lavander oil is an astringent which helps to kill germs and bacteria.
2 ingredients that do everything you need. No frills.
You're welcome! |

Thanks everyone! All your input has been very helpful. I've stayed away from the Neosporine and been using Curel and just keeping it clean. Things have been healing quite well and quickly. It's exciting to see it slowly reveal itself.
Thanks for the organic suggestion BadWolf. I will definately try it out after my next visit! _________________ enjoy. |

They are spam-bots.... Notice their posts are just random jiberish with a link attached. Read up on Searchengine optimization adn how SE's like google work, and these posts will make alot more sense to you.. I delete them as I see them if they are in the tattoo forum. _________________
