but yes.. i'm going for the Atlanta campus. i feel like if I'm already in ATL when I graduate, I'll have a better chance at getting a job in the field, because of the possibilities in ATL. I'm steady trying to get those pictures. Although, I'm sort of thrown off now.. my mom is persistant in getting me to go to Wesleyan in Macon and today I visited the campus and met the art professor and he gave me like a book on women who graduated with master's in art from the school and what they do now and such.. and it's quiet tempting. I'm sort of leaning to it because it's close to home and Macon's not a unknown territory like ATL is to me. So, if I do go to Wesleyan, I could always get my master's from SCAD right?

Well I personally hate hate hate Macon so I'm a little biased on that one. I don't know that much about Wesleyan there, I do know, however, that SCAD is getting more and more difficult to get into. I don't really know if it's harder to get into an undergrad program there or not but I'm gonna guess that undergrad is easier to get accepted into. But it's also hella more expensive.
IMO course catalogs are really your best friend in this situation. In the end it's more about getting what you need out of the education and developing your skills than how elite some of the students are. Maybe stepping outside of your comfort zone would help take you to the next level? Maybe not... You've peeked my interest now though, I'm gonna read up on Wesleyan. I'm already in school but I'm just curious... |

If I graduate in a basic 4 years, I will likely be a good $100,000 in the hole, NOT including books, supplies, and dorms.
AND in order to get accepted, I'm having to prepare a portfolio, write an essay on my goals going to SCAD, three letters of recommendation...and a whole lot of pulling my hair out.
I think it's because SCAD ATL had just started out about 5 years ago with just things pertaining to media arts, such as TV and the like. What better a place to be than in the Turner capital of the world. Now they have a WHOLE lot more majors being offered at their campus, including animation, illustration, and sequential art, which is what I'm going for. SCAD, as a school, has always been pretty difficult to get into even before they opened the ATL campus. I know it was one I looked into a lot before I graduated high school, but I opted for The Academy of Art University in San Francisco because I had earned a summer tuition scholarship there. SCAD is really tough to keep up with too. I have quite a few friends who went, and they worked to the bone. But it IS one of the most recognizable art schools in the nation, and the hard work is gonna count for something there. |

Oh yess, SCAD is getting harder to get in. I don't know if they are starting to get big headed about their status and standings but.. IDK.. I've already been through the application process at SCAD once.. and it's wicked hard to get into. The President of my Senior Class got into SCAD and not to be knocking on his skills, but I have waaayyy more art ability than he does. But I can understand why he got in, he got so many financial aid awards after graduation, it's not even funny. They gave him this Millenium something award, and it was the first given out.. basically it's nothing but a checkbook and they told him write out whatever he needed to pay for..lol.. No hassle for SCAD. I don't know what I did wrong, I worked on my art portfolio and statement of purpose for a year and a half, and I even got a art teacher at our high school who graduated from SCAD to look at my portfolio, and she said she thought it was better than it needed to be to get in. I put in paintings, sketches, pen and ink, watercolor, the t-shirts I've airbrushed, drawings on my desk.. lol.. everything. So, I don't know.. I can either keep trying or move on.
But that $100,000 in debt afterwords, makes it untempting. lol. And Wesleyan's like 1/3 of that. Apart of me wants to go there because of the professors and I've heard nothing but good about the women who've graduated from there. I'm not too crazy about the whole women's college part though, even though I am gay. And yes, I hate Macon too.. the traffic on the weekend sucks. point blank. I can't understand why people want to go there on vacation and stuff. I guess... Thanks Oprah!? At least there's a local tattoo parlor. lol.
Anyways. I think I will hold off on that wrist tattoo, I wasn't even thinking about that. I'm glad someone brought that up and I got on here and checked the day before I went and got it done.. I've always wanted something on my arm though, I guess I'ma wait till I'm a old grandma and get one, if I don't kill myself trying getting into a good art school somewhere. lol. |
