Ok, as an artist, I'll let you in on something :
Doing a cover-up with a black-box is a BIG "No-No". Now, if that's what you wanted and are happy with it, then that's totally and completely fine. That being said, if you came intothe shop i worked in and asked for that, both my boss and I would have told you it was a terrible idea and refused to do it. The point of cover-ups, generally, is to HIDE the orginal tattoo without letting the general viewer know that the piece that they are looking at is, in fact, a cover-up.
I don't mind the "sketchy" quality of the flower, though it DEFINATELY could have been acchieved better. My issue is that a big black rectangle (cover up or not) simply doesn't flow well for where it's positioned. Beyond that, it a HEAVY BLACK BOX against the very "airy", fine-line (for lack of a better term) piece, which m akes the piece, in general, VERY bottom-heavy. The unbalanced nature of the piece and the lack of flow are, to me, the REAL issues here.
You said that you dig it, so that's great, it really is. Just don't expect people on a Tattoo-related message board tp simply LOVE it when it, in fact, is a bit "off" in a lot of (aforementioned) ways. _________________ Just a small guy trying to get by... |
