The proper way to gauge your ears is to get them done at the normal gauge(18g), and taper up a gauge AFTER THE EARS HAVE HEALED. I think there are studios that will pierce at a 14g(no higher, though) first, but this can mess with the shape of your ears, especially if you ever have to take them out.

You should wait at least 5 weeks in between stretching your ears so that your ears have time to heal. Otherwise, you risk a blow out, which results in scar tissue and and inability for your ears to both shrink and stretch, as scar tissue is not elastic like normal flesh can be.

When you gauge, ONLY gauge up ONE gauge at a time. Do not skip gauges! Skipping gauges puts a lot of stress on the elasticity of your ears and once again, you risk a blow out.

Take care of them like you would a new piercing every time you up a gauge until they heal.

If you do it properly and not rush it, you will have perfectly stretched ears with no complications. It may take a while, but it's worth it in the end.

Your ears will be pierced at 18 gauge. You really need to let them heal for the full 6 weeks before starting to stretch them, since it's the first time you're having them pierced, and the healing for that is going to take a little bit longer than the healing after you stretch them.

After the 6 weeks, you'll want to go up to a 16 gauge. After the 16 gauge will be a 14 gauge...so on and so forth until you have them stretched to whatever gauge you want them at. Smile

Remember, the lower the gauge number is, the bigger the hole will be.
