Please go to a professional piercer. They will have all the jewelry you need, as well as a sterilized environment, clean instruments, and the ability to answer any questions you may have face to face.
I tried my best to answer your questions, but I am not a professional piercer...simply someone who has a lot of experience with piercing and treating wounds medically. There are some aspects to piercing and gauging your ears that a professional piercer will know much more about then I do. |

Looking around is the only way you're gonna find a good place to go to. Look in the phone book, find tattoo parlors. Most of them also do piercings. Figure out where they are, go to the studio and check it out yourself, make sure they're clean.
Otherwise you're risking a lot of unneeded pain an frustration when it comes to healing your ears.
I wouldn't even recommend a place like Claire's for piercings, because the way they do it is just not done right. My boyfriend just had to switch out his lobe piercing because the post caused his ear to get infected and embedded.
A hollow needle is the best way to pierce anything because it's sharper, cleaner, and doesn't cause any blunt trauma to your ears. The state of the piercing directly results in not only how well it heals initially, but in your case, how far you'll be able to stretch it, IF you can stretch it at all after that. If your ears have difficulty healing because you went to Claire's or did it yourself, that risks a lot of scar tissue, which will NOT stretch. I wouldn't be so adamant about getting it professionally done if you were just going to pierce your ears(I've done my own myself with a safety pin before), but because you're looking to make them a larger gauge, it's important to do it the RIGHT way.
Tapering your ears can be done on your own. That's fine, as long as your careful with it and use the proper tools to do it. But please do NOT mess around with the initial piercing.
As said, I'm not a professional piercer by any means, but I've had all sorts of problems with my own piercings, so a lot of my thoughts come from experience, and things I learned while being a counter girl at a local tattoo shop.
It's better to get it done once and done right, than done wrong and done a million times over. Doing it wrong results in a lot of unneeded pain, frustration, and waste of money. |

I'm just hoping that someday, somewhere, common sense will finally seep through the typical empty skull of general society.
I've stated my points and arguments, so. *shrug* I'm done.
I've just had some really bad experiences with Claire's, even with my own ears, as well as now healing my boyfriend's ear this week from his embedded stud...so...yeah. I think we're going hollow needle from now on. |

If you want to do it yourself, I think you can just use a taper like this:
http://www.piercedfish.com/?page=product&pid=1295
I always had my shop do it. They do it for me for free, but then...they like me .
Prices are probably going to vary. Just have to ask. _________________ "Be sincere; be brief; be seated" - FDR |

No problem. And no, I was merely showing you the tool used to gauge your ears...which is what you had asked about in your previous post. But never fear, I consulted my magical Google wizard, which brilliantly (and quickly!) produced this...
