Warped Tour 03 DVD is on at the moment (not the best year for the tour, not the best year by far)

I think Slick Shoes is playing at the moment....

Great album. Best vocalist of all time (of any genre).

The Explosion - Bury Me Standing

Apparently it was the record that they had just finished recording when they broke up a few years back. In any case, it's pretty mediocre, which is a shame considering how strongly this band started out.

The Casualties - "We Are All We Have" ( currently "Life Clone")

I wrote these guys off a few years ago, but their latest record is really doing it for me. Still not enough to make me forget about what douche bags they are, but, still, it's a solid record.

Nathan Maxwell and The Original Bunny Gang - "White Rabbit" (currently "Working for the Man")

Nathan from Flogging Molly's new band's debut record. It's certainly not the celtic punk that Flogging Molly's made a name doing for the past decade. This record is more in line with Joe Strummer's work with the Mescaleros : a blend of folk, reggae, and ska, that really works.

Nathan's voice is rough enough that it fits the music well, and the whole record is pretty chill. I'm not sure if it's the kind of record I could listen to all the time, but it's certainly going to be in regular rotation for awhile in my CD player.

The Bouncing Souls - 20th Anniversary Series Vol 2. (currently "Dubs Says True")

Basically, the Souls, for their 20th year as a band, are releasing 1 song a month via various sites. Every 4 months, a 3 song 7" is being released as well (which is what I've been picking up). That said, this is the 2nd 7" and, like the first, it's solid. A part of me will always miss the goofier, more upbeat Souls of the late 90's, but, regardless, the new material is great.

Captain Clegg and the Night Creatures - "Rob Zombie Presents....Captain Clegg and the Night Creatures (currently "Transylvania Terror Train")

Basically, Rob Zombie asked his pal Jesse Dayton (aka one of the best Rockabilly/Country songwriters/performers working today) to form a band and record a couple songs for his latest flik, "Halloween 2". Asking some pals and taking their name from the European and American names of a 1962 Hammer film starring Peter Cushing.

Well, the guys had so much fun on the 2 songs and performing during the party scene in the movie that they decided to record a full length, which Zombie released through his "Zombie-A-Go-Go" record label.

Basically, it a mixture of 50's rockabilly, 60's country, a bit of Mexican flair, and a dash of neo psychobilly style. Pretty solid record end to end.

Dayton did a similar piece of advertising/promotion for Zombie's film "The Devil's Rejects", writing a batch of goofy, tongue-in-cheek 70's style country tunes as "Banjo and Sullivan" (a band in the film that killed by the murderous protagonists).

Just got the 3-disc "Sun Records : Rockabilly Meltdown" compilation and I'm giving it a listen. Sure, it's nothing new (obviously), but, for a single collection, it's really hard to be beat.

Of course, it has all of the staples : Elvis, Cash, Lewis, Perkins, Riley, Orbison, etc. On top of who you'd expect, there are just great gems by guys like Warren Smith, Dickey Lee, Jerry Arnold, Eddie Bond, and a plethora of others.

Basically, if you're new to Sun Records and how they really helped changed the game of popular music, this would be a great place to start. On the inverse, if you're already a Sun fan, this is just a nice convenient set of classics and a few rarer tunes.

Slayer - "World Painted Blood" (currently "Americon")

A friend dropped off the promo of Slayer's new one yesterday. So far, I'm digging it more than their last record. I was going to do a full review but, honestly, it's Slayer, and it honestly isn't breaking new ground. Slayer are a love'em or hate'em band. That said, if you fall into the former group, chances are you'll dig this record.
