I got my first when I was 54, so I am not going to worry about it until I am 80. If I live that long. If I live to a 100 I will be thrilled to have made to that age, and who would care about what my tattoos would look like.

People who ask that question think "What are tattoos going to look like when you're flabby and wrinkly?" They say it like being flabby and wrinkly is good by itself. wink

that's what i realised and why i decided after 7 years of getting tattoos to finally get my arms tattooed. i mean, im going to be wrinkly, have cellulite and everythings going to be heading south anyway so is a few tattoos really going to make much difference??

the funny thing is that the people who ask me that question are the ones who smoke, drink, use sunbeds and eat junk whereas i take care of my body and dont abuse it in order to be healthy and have good skin and be toned and fit - who's going to look better in 50 years - me with tattoos or them - i think me personally...

im with Badtaste & co regarding Japanese work - its the only style i could ever see myself growing old with and therefore ive given my shoulder and both arms to it - i see it as more mature i guess and i think it looks better than some other styles on older people.

There are no guarantees that any of us will get old. I think what a lot of people are thinking when they say stuff about being old with tattoos is how are you going to explain it to your kids, grandkids etc. Some people get bad tattoos or things they regret after 6 months or whatever, and how do you explain that to someone in the future. Myself i have no regrets about my tattoo and will have no trouble growing old with it even if it fades or sags or wrinkles. After 10 years i still like to look at it and as I age maybe I'll have more time to do it. besides the people in my old folks home are going to be much more concerned with my harley powered wheelchair. i got my first tattoo at the ripe young age of 49 so i wasn't too worried about what it would look like when i turned 50.... Wink ...i've had 9 since then and i'm not concerned about what anyone else thinks about them, least of all my son....he loves all of them and has no problem with 'grandma' being tattooed....i've got the well earned lines and wrinkles that come with my age and i wear them AND my tattoos proudly....i always will....

I always thought old guys with tatts were awesome, it made them more interesting to me. They always had a story to go with it, no matter if it was a old sailor or a biker I always thought it was cool. I have no issues with being old and having tatts, you know that they're perminent when you get them so why would it bother you as you get older... its the one thing you can have forever that nobody can take from you. My oldest tatt is from 6 years ago, still love it, the only thing I have an issue with it now is do I want to add more or how do I work it in with future tatts.
As for explaining it to my son, so far he loves my tatts. He traces them and points at them alot, like its a picture from his coloring book or something. I don't think I'll ever have an issue with my ink... as CxCx said, it'll be fun to be the old man with tatts! Twisted Evil

That 'what's it going to look like in 25 years' actually really does hold me back. It just kinda makes me think fifty times about what I'm wanting to get and where... But I totally agree with that it can really only add a positive to flabby, saggy old skin can't it?

I love seeing old guys with tattoos too I think it makes them look interesting and like they've had a life too I guess.
I saw a woman in about her 50's (I think) with a swallow on her neck the other day and I would have imagined that as not looking in the best taste at that age but I actually liked it.
Although I'm sure there are lots of people of her age who would look at her as trashy...

I got my first tattoo over 20 years ago and have never regreted it. Many years later, at 40, I got another one Smile A few people told me that I'm immature and should grow up, since kids get inked and pierced, not mature adults, lol Very Happy
