An iron cross. Wow. West Coast Choppers baby. Walmart brand. A swastika will mean the same thing but get you way more bang for your buck. A confederate flag is a distant third.

Wow, when did this become everyonetrashtattooideas.com?

WTF does the maltese cross have to do with racial discrimination anyway? It's a christian symbol, and you'll see it on everything from military to ambulances and firefighter uniforms...

Anyway OP, that can all be done with shading, possibly with white being used on the highlights (I guess)

Sorry Solidpens that is not a maltese cross it is an iron cross. It was stolen and adapted by Hitler in WWII just as the swastika. This is the type of tattoo you should get in prison.

These are exapmles of the Maltese Cross.

It is not the same thing.

Even if it is an Iron Cross and not a Maltese Cross, it goes back centuries before the Nazis, and is still used by many without having any ties to Nazism. For instance, the US army still uses it on their badges. You'll see it in the mainstream anywhere from heavy metal logos, to custom motorcycles, to WWE wrestler logos.

However with Hitler's Nazis using it pretty much invalidates its original symbolism. Just like if you were to get the traditional buddhist symbol that is now generally known as a swastika... That would be unacceptable for most normal people.

So whether you want a Maltese cross or a Prussian Iron Cross or a Nazi Iron Cross, everyone is going to look at it the same way.

Thus, by your own example, regardless of what it once meant, people go by what it means. IE iron cross = BAD IDEA.

idiot.

Im confused... It sounds to me like hes making our case- not his own....
correct me if im wrong but didnt you just say b/c of history no one will recognize it for its original symbolism? which means no matter how "mainstream" it has become itll always be seen by most people as bad symbolism.
meaning you prob shouldnt get it as a tattoo
Although personally the first thing that popped into my head when i saw the tattoo was tribal meets the independent skateboarding brand.... weird

The swastica was also a symbol used for thousands of years before Hitler bastardized it. To the chinese it was a symbol of good luck.

Also a bad idea for a tattoo.

My point is, with no context, the Iron Cross is perfectly acceptable. Wear a West Coast Choppers or Independent or a HHH T-Shirt or whatever if you like.

But in the context of a tattoo, it is certainly not appropriate.

It may be possible to add context to the tattoo, making it acceptable. Like a tattoo of one of the US Army badges that use it, or even a full "Independent" logo if you're into that brand or whatever. Still kinda cheesy, but it would work better than having one by itself or surrounded by a whacky abstract pattern.

hey dip shit, the Army does not use the iron cross on any of its badges. the marksmanship badges use four triangles centering in on a target, representing that you can shoot, or at least qualify. before you start talking, check your facts.
