| My 17 yr old son got a tat from a person without my written or verbal permission. the worst part is a 2 yr old could have done a better job. What are my legal rights. Don't get me wrong I love ink I have 15 of them. But only when it's done right. |

Does the person he got it from own a tattoo business? Or was it an individul doing it out of their house? If its some kitchen scratcher, I don't know wha your options are. I don't know what they could do if I was 17 and asked my buddy to tattoo me and he did? _________________

Also, what state are you in?
Honestly, I'd let your kid wear his crappy decision, and frankly, I'd give him shit about how bad it looks everyday. |

Yep!
My Ex and I are both tattooists and our daughter came home with a horrible piece of shit and we made her wear it for at least 3 years or more before fixing it!
And I made her show everybody!! _________________ Just a common man tattooing the common man!

If it came from a licensed shop you should report it to your local health board who governs tattoo studios. One word of caution though: If your kid says it came from a legit shop, check first to make sure it actually came from that shop. We have had several incidences over the years of kids telling their parents we did a tattoo or piercing (in order to protect their friend who really did it, or else thinking they'd be in less trouble if it came from a real shop), when we actually had no part in it.
If it was done out of a house by a non professional, especially if that person is an adult, there are a number of charges that could possibly be brought against them. Talk to both the Health Dept. and your local DA to see what they are willing to do. You may also have grounds for a civil suit against the individual and at the very should seek to make them pay for laser removal of the tattoo.
But I also agree that making the kid live with the tat for awhile is good medicine. _________________ Matt Crunk

what you mentioned matt happen to me just this friday, i answered the first phone call of the day with a screaming, T.O.'d mother going nuts on me. once i calmed her down it turned out that the 17 year old kid had lied, they live 300 miles away and the kid was only gone with mom's car for 4 hours. so unless they kid broke all known speed records as well as getting tattooed in record time, i couldn't have done it.
as a note to parents, when inquiring if a professional tattoo studio had done your kids illegally tattoo it might not be a good idea to start off with threats and screaming at the top of your lungs. be calm, you may end up with more information. most professionals are more than happy to help with taking down a illegal kitchen scratcher. _________________ Think BEFORE you ink, its gonna be on your hide for a very long time |

As Matt said, contact your local Board of Health. Most states have laws set in place concerning tattooing, but, mostly, it's handled on the local level.
In our city, if a person tattoos a minor, it can be up to a 2500 dollar fine and 90 days in county. _________________ Just a small guy trying to get by... |

hah, I knew of a 13 year old girl who got tattooed by a buddy. On her fingers.
I just shook my head and laughed at her.. _________________ "I suppose the clock itself will wear thin its time before I am ended at this altar of dying and dying again" |
